When I was pregnant with Benji Bear the first trimester (learn more about what to expect during your first trimester of pregnancy) was horrible. You feel hung over all the time, your energy is low and food is a category in itself. My experience with pregnancy #2 has not been any different, first trimester was also horrible.
But this pregnancy, this little cub has been ten times worse than that. This pregnancy all but crippled me. While I wasn’t physically puking (thank goodness) I was beyond nauseous and horribly ill feeling.
Thankfully my mornings were somewhat balanced. I didn’t feel good but I could manage.
Every pregnancy is different: believe this. It’s true!
I’ve long since accepted that the rule of the first trimester is survival and not health. However it still threw me for a loop when I wanted things so far outside my norm it was unreal.
With baby bear it was pretty basic, no salads, no chicken and much more bananas and bread.
This pregnancy was similar but I wanted things I normally wouldn’t eat. Like Ramen noodles..
The only plus was that I wanted nothing to do with sugar.
Naturally my energy is really high due to my solid nutritional habits. This means I’m not a happy camper when it comes to dips. And dip is what it did. That is one thing that has been consistent with my experience with pregnancy #2. Naps have been my best friend throughout the day, if not, I can’t function.
This truthfully killed me because napping seems so unproductive to me! But it was what my body said I needed and exactly what we did.
If you follow my social media you know that I try to be consistent with my workouts. Not because I “have to” but because it’s so ingrained in me that it’s just what I do. Workouts keep me sane, grounded and positive.
I have not been able to keep up with my regular workouts the entire pregnancy which means strength training at least twice a week. However, the general basis and intensity of the workouts has changed based on my body and as mentioned previously, my energy.
Another “wives tale” to listen to. NOT! I didn’t completely start showing, until I was about 20 weeks. Even then, it was just a small pouch. But thighs got a little thick.
The first trimester was rough. I struggled to gain weight, and ended up losing 10 lbs. Second trimester was slightly better, I gained less than 5 lbs. but then lost 2 lbs.
It has since gotten much better though and my tummy seems to have popped. FINALLY!
Moods & Mentality
Overall I am doing great as I’m just so excited, a little uncomfortable. Benji Bear knows there’s a “baby” in my tummy, i think. He likes laying his head on my belly especially when the baby is moving and kicking.
A lot has changed in the last year. My goal for the remainder of this pregnancy is to appreciate it more, stress less and love all the ups downs and annoyances. So far I think I’m rocking this! What our bodies are capable of is truly amazing and inspiring.
What about you, what changes did you notice the second time around? Or what are you struggling with on your first pregnancy?
